Ray - The Retiring Postie. Presentation on Saturday 11 December

13 December 2010

Ray, our erstwhile 'postie', has delivered his last letter, licked his last stamp, and finally hung up his sack and he prepares to enjoy a no doubt well-earned retirement.

He is seen here receiving a signed card and a gift from grateful Duddenhoe Enders, represented by a brave and valiant group who kept an eye out for his arrival at the village post box last Saturday morning. They conveyed our thanks for his diligent service and wished him well in his retirement.

Thanks to Brian Barker for organising everything, and John McAdams for stepping in to make the presentation after Brian had a close encounter in his van with a deer a couple of days beforehand.

Fortunately, Brian is in good shape - which is not what can be said of the deer......

Coffee Morning

10 December 2010

The weather was freezing but this didn't deter those attending the coffee morning in Duddenhoe End!

It was such a lovely morning with friends and neighbours, meeting and chatting together.

The cake stall, raffle and bring and buy did a roaring trade and an amazing total of £400 was raised for the Hamlet Church.

Thanks to all who made cakes, bought gifts and donated towards the raffle enabling us to raise so much money for such a worthy cause.

FESTIVE SWITCH-ON

10 December 2010

The official ‘switch-on’ of the Village Hall Christmas lights attracted an excellent gathering of more than 50 people – perhaps attracted as much by the promise of mulled wine, mince pies, stollen and bonhomie as much as the illuminations.

We were particularly delighted to welcome at least six village newcomers and we hope they enjoyed themselves enough to attend more events in the future.

Suitably warmed, we ventured outside for the countdown. Phoebe Clifton from Lower Pond Street helped throw the switch for our twinkling Christmas tree-shaped display. It will light the way to and from the village hall or, at least, offer a gentle beacon for travellers to our community for the next few weeks.

2011 marks the 80th anniversary year of Duddenhoe End Village Hall and we are in the process of planning a calendar of events. Keep checking the website for details. If there is anything you would like to help organise or an event you would like the committee to consider, please let us know.
