The aromas of sandalwood and spices
wafted from Duddenhoe End Village Hall for our Indian-themed quiz night,
held on 13 November.
Our thanks to the 49 quizzers, including a contingent from Elmdon, who
supported the evening, attracted either by the lure of the challenge or
the delicious home- made chicken curry – with non-spicy and vegetarian
options, and authentic Indian beer.
‘Bollywood’ music and colourful hangings added to the atmosphere
as quizzers nibbled on plates of Bombay mix as they negotiated their way
through a series of tricky rounds, including a fiendishly difficult rebus
(dingbats/word) puzzle that taxed even the sharpest brains.
There could be only one winning team, however, with a score of 73, and
that was the ‘Pashwari Naans’, so congratulations to Ray and
Sheila Jones, Sue Pearce and Phil Clifton, aided and abetted, between
stints behind the bar, by Bob Reich. They narrowly beat the ‘Door
Stops’ into second place by 2 ½ points.
A good night was had by all.
Thanks to those who worked so hard to make it a success – in particular
to Susanne Reich, who spent 8 hours preparing the curry and Jane Guy,
who, with Susanne, devised the quiz.
Thanks also to those of you who came along. Your contributions go towards
the continued running of the village hall so that we can enjoy more occasions
like this in the future.
