Harvest Supper - 16 October 2010

It was wonderful to see more than 50 people turn out for the Harvest Supper on 16 October and the menu put together by the better halves of the Village Hall committee certainly seemed to find favour.

Our thanks to Andrew James & Co, The Red Cow, Kings Family Butchers, BV Tools, Lt. Commander & Mrs D Tuke and all others who helped towards making the evening such a success with their generous donations to the raffle and loans of equipment.

Not only was it one of those few occasions on which we can all get together to social as a village, the proceeds, once the catering costs are covered, make a much needed contribution towards maintaining the running and fabric of the village hall. As Bob mentioned in his Chairman's speech, one of our next tasks is to give the hall a fresh coat of paint and new curtains, when funds permit, but hopefully in the spring.

Winning the meal at The Red Cow in our raffle proved a bit of a double-edged sword for Julie Foster, as she also drew the dreaded ‘Pink Lady’. We look forward eagerly to next year’s event to hear her poetic verses.

Last year's custodian of the Pink Lady, Nick Folkes, sent in the statutory ode which can be read here.
