What are ".pdf " files
PDF stands for Portable Document Format, invented by Adobe Systems and perfected over 15 years, it allows you share and view fully formatted documents on any computer system.
The format is safe, virus free and can be saved as a computer file or printed out as hard copy.  This site makes extensive use of them for these reasons.  To see them you need a copy of Acrobat Reader, this is available free of charge from Adobe's web site.

What are ".rtf" files

RTF stands for Rich Text Format, this type of file allows a reasonable amount of formatting but has the following advantages:
  • It is almost impossible for them to carry  viruses and other harmful programs.
  • Almost all word processors can read them.
  • They are compatible with PCs and Apple Macs and most portable and palm top computers
