The tempting aroma of
roasting pig, which wafted around the centre of the village on Saturday afternoon
(September 16), was just the inducement needed to bring about 60 people to the village
hall in the evening.
Chris Renshaw started cooking the pig on a spit in the car park several hours before
the event and had it ready for the gourmets when they started arriving at the hall
at 6.30pm. This was the annual harvest supper, organised by the Village Hall
Committee, which began at an earlier time to encourage parents to bring their children
and made the supper a family event.
Our grateful thanks are owed to Chris, who allowed us to have the hog roast at a
discounted price, and also to the ladies of the village who kindly provided the
desserts of apple pie and apple crumble.
Everyone obviously enjoyed themselves and were happy to
take part in a variety of games and competitions. The winner, of the far from
easy quiz competition, compiled by treasurer Jane Guy, was won by Professor Martin
Collins who was awarded the 'Smarty Pants' title and vouchers. Runner-up was Michael
Skinner. The answers are available
here.

There was also a harvest hat competition and this was won by nine year old
Jessie Harris who sported a very attractive harvest theme creation, her prize a
photo session with Qdos of Stansted.
A logo competition to mark the 75th anniversary of the village hall was won by Hannah
Broughton, aged nine, and the runner-up was six year old Emily Schwieger whose entry
will be used as a watermark on the committee's stationery. Hannah was awarded vouchers
worth £25 and Emily vouchers worth £10. Click

The event, together with the proceeds from the quiz, raised over £800 for Village
Hall funds which, together with a grant of £1,000 from Uttlesford District Council,
will be spent on essential repairs to the hall.
The Village Hall Committee wishes to thank all those who supported the harvest supper
and all our sponsors:
